Background
One of the largest retailers in the UK retained SECOM as a security provider circa 2010. SECOM installed new electronic security systems on a number of premises. However, the retailer continued to suffer forced entries on a mixture of high street and edge of town stores.
Challenges
The retailer has over 2,500 stores. This makes it very difficult to implement a single security solution across the estate. Some outlets couldn’t be fitted with rollers due to a lack of space, while others were limited by local planning restrictions. All the while, high losses continued as a result of break-ins.
Solution
SECOM suggested a simple product that could be tailored to each store. The product would be easy for employees to operate and could be installed very quickly with minimal disruption – important for a reactive loss model.
Results and benefits
The results speak for themselves. The collapsible gates have proven very effective, significantly reducing break-in attempts and saving the retailer thousands of pounds in trade and repair costs.
Stuart Hampson, National Account Executive, comments: “Almost 200 sites now have the collapsible gate solution installed, and only one of these stores has been targeted since the installations were completed.”
Collapsible gates play a valuable role in SECOM’s security arsenal. The additional layer of security makes store staff feel safer, deters forced entry and demonstrates a solid return on investment to senior management.
